How often should electrical panels be inspected for safety?

Electrical panels should be safety-inspected at least once a year. Age, heat, and vibration can loosen connections and create hotspots that raise fire risk, which a thermal test and visual check can catch early. Most panels that get yearly care only need tightening or small repairs; upgrade is considered when overheating, corrosion, or capacity issues show up. Schedule sooner if you notice any of these:

• Breakers tripping repeatedly or won’t reset
• Warm or buzzing panel cover
• Burning odor or scorch marks near the panel
• Recent remodels or added loads like an EV charger or generator

If the panel feels hot or smells burnt, keep clear and call a licensed electrician immediately.
