What should I do first when a circuit breaker trips in my home?

First, locate your electrical panel and reset the tripped breaker by switching it fully OFF, then back ON. Unplug or turn off devices on that circuit before resetting. If it trips again or you notice burning smells, sparks, shocks, buzzing, warm outlets, or frequent trips, stop and call a licensed electrician. Routine inspections can help prevent repeat trips. We troubleshoot and repair electrical issues with fast response and emergency service in Roanoke and Rocky Mount.
