What should I do if my garbage disposal is humming but not working?

If your garbage disposal hums but won’t grind, cut power, press the red reset button on the bottom, then try again. If it still hums, use a 1/4-inch hex key in the bottom socket to free a jam, or gently rotate the impeller from above with a wooden spoon. Never put your hand inside.
